Kathy Barton Allen

Artist Kathy Barton Allen has a real love for the beauty and variety that can be seen and experienced in the world in which we live, and enjoys the opportunity of that expression through her art.
Her wide range of subjects are a composite of ideas derived from her sketches, photographs, and imagination as she seeks to explore and interpret some of the beauty she has seen displayed by the Master Artist in His Creation.
Kathy is largely self-taught and her works are a unique blend of techniques she has developed incorporating acrylic paint used both as watercolors and opaquely with touches of pen and ink, pastels, and colored pencils. She has taught her methodology in many workshops and to her numerous students over the years. In addition to her teaching and painting, Kathy also composes songs to correspond to paintings.
Kathys art has been displayed in several galleries and many private collections throughout the country, including a one woman show at NIH and the Washington Convention Centre. In 2003, the Discovery Channel filmed one of Kathys art presentations as part of a show featuring the Allen family.
Locally, Kathys Artwork was selected for a one woman exhibit for the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.
A longtime resident of historic Frederick Maryland, Kathy now makes her home in Chesapeake Virginia, where she lives with her husband Calvin. A family of singers and musicians, Kathy and Calvin along with their son CJ and daughter-in-law Rebecca all lend their musical talents to local venues.
